Korey Wise

This mural, painted during the Black Lives Matter movement, features half of Korey Wise's face. The choice to paint only half of his face symbolizes how Wise spent 'half' of his life in prison for a crime he did not commit. As one of the 'Exonerated Five', Korey Wise was wrongfully convicted in the infamous Central Park jogger case in 1989. He served over a decade in prison before DNA evidence and a confession from the real perpetrator led to his exoneration. This piece reflects on the deep injustice he endured and honors his resilience in the face of systemic racism.
